Our History

Formula Installation started in 2008 as a result of an industry where materials are provided, but rarely installed, by the distributor. This leaves end-users and general contractors with the task of finding and employing yet another subcontractor to provide the expertise to assemble their openings. Greg Meyer, founder and CEO of Formula, recognized this need from his experience in the door industry. He formed Formula Installation Company, LLC, which specializes in commercial door and hardware installation. From Greg’s background as a carpenter in Florida installing both commercial and residential doors, to Charleston South Carolina where he began working with The Hardware Corporation of America, Greg has furthered his knowledge and training of the commercial door industry. We believe that we have the right formula to succeed in the commercial door marketplace. Formula is more than just a door distributor - we are a full service distribution and installation company that can handle any project small or large!


Our Experience

We have experience in projects in excess of 1,600 doors. Formula can coordinate, deliver, distribute, & install these projects from start to finish under one roof. Some examples of projects that Greg has completed: Naval Air Station in Pensacola Florida, 1,632 doors on the visitors quarters, swimmers school, and fitness center. Over 400 doors installed in less than three weeks while traveling in Fort Collins, Colorado at the Fort Carson Base. College of Charleston dormitories 1,245 doors floored, coordinated, and installed successfully! The Citadel Law Barracks with 944 hollow metal doors and specialty prison grade hardware. Since 2008 Formula has specialized in healthcare facilities throughout South Carolina. We understand the needs of working in these delicate environments while providing quality products in accordance with current life safety codes. We can provide products and services that stand up to the abuse which can occur in that intense yet fragile 24/7 environment. Through our combined experience we have over 30 years experience in the commercial door and hardware business. Formula has become a distributor of commercial doors and architectural hardware, supplying many of the major brands to its customers. Because of Formula’s approach from the ground up as installers before distributors, we have special knowledge and understanding of the doors and door hardware and how it works together. Being installers first, we understand the relationship of the door and frame to its hardware and meet the needs of our customers through this unique approach.

In 2010 Formula formed a sister company, Formula Automatic Door Company, Inc., also located in Charleston, South Carolina. Formula Automatic Door Company caters to end-users and facility managers. The automatic door world is traditionally a separate industry in and of itself from the conventional manual swing doors. In the automatic door world you must be familiar with ANSI standards as well as life safety codes and low-voltage electricity. At Formula Automatic Door Company we provide door service in South Carolina and southern Georgia. We sell, install and service multiple leading products in the automatic door industry. We are also a distributor for record USA, Dorma Automatics and Norton. Whether it’s adding safety sensors or upgrading your entire opening, Formula Automatic door can do it! In addition to automatic doors, we also sell and service manual doors. We specialize in integrating electrified security hardware with automatic doors allowing the facilities we service to cut down in the necessity for multiple subcontractors regarding the same opening.

We provide compliance surveys for fire rated openings to meet the needs of NFPA 80, NFPA 101 Life Safety Code, fire marshals, and other AHJs.
